Introduction
2007 was the 50th anniversary of the discovery of CoQ10.
"An important scientific innovation rarely makes its way by gradually winning over and converting its opponents: it rarely happens that Saul becomes Paul. What does happen is that its opponents gradually die out and that the growing generation is familiarized with the idea from the beginning."
- Max Planck 1858-1947, Nobel Laureate (physics 1918)
The purpose of this website is to introduce a very special vitamin like substance that most New Zealanders may never have heard about - Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10.
There has been much written about Coenzyme Q10 since it was first discovered in 1957 by Dr Frederick Crane PhD at the University of Wisconsin's enzyme Institute. CoQ10 has been the subject of more than 4000 studies, eleven international conferences and in 1978 British Biochemist Peter Mitchell Ph.D earned a Nobel Prize for Chemistry for work on cellular power production involving CoQ10.
Three books, one by Dr Emile Bliznakov and another by renowned American cardiologist Dr Stephen Sinatra describe CoQ10 as 'A Miracle Nutrient' and 'A Phenomenon'. In her best selling book 'Miracle Cures' author Jean Harper has Coenzyme Q10 as Miracle Cure #1.
I have been fascinated and encouraged by what I have read about CoQ10 and how this so called 'Miracle Nutrient' may support cardiovascular health, the immune system and slow the aging process.
I discovered that such is the worldwide interest in CoQ10 there is an International Association of researchers, scientists and corporations from Italy, the United States and Canada, England, Japan, India, Indonesia, Austria, Argentina, Denmark, Sweden, Australia and New Zealand, who meet to share their findings and thus contribute to the accumulating data concerning this amazing molecule.
I encourage you to read the various sections of this site where you will find more detailed information and explanations.
